This presents the first movement only of Sor’s famous duet for two guitars L’encouragement op. 34 which he published in Paris in about 1828, that is to say very soon after his return to Paris from Russia. The work is intended for students, with one part marked “L’ÉLÈVE” (“The pupil”), and the other “LE MAÎTRE” (“The teacher”), and Sor indeed dedicated it to one of his lady students.
