This is a re-engraved edition of Fernando Sor’s Variations on a favourite Scottish Air op. 40 for solo guitar, one of his most delightful pieces, presented here in a separate sheet music edition with an extensive preface by Brian Jeffery.  The theme is the well-known Scottish tune “Ye banks and braes o’ bonnie Doon”.

TECLA 0024. 12 pages.  First published by Tecla in 1982.

Sor composed this work for a pupil in Paris in about 1830. Highly recommended for performance, with a fine variation using harmonics.

Read the complete preface.  Gives many details about the origins of the melody, about the person to whom the work was dedicated, about Sor’s use of harmonics, etc.

Because of damp in a warehouse in the past, all our copies have some rust on their staples (not very much, but it is there).  Please be aware of this when you order.  Of course remember that the music is fine and it’s a very good piece with (I hope) a good introduction . . .
