Mozart/Sor: Three arias from Don Giovanni arranged for voice and guitar by Sor (pdf)

This is an exciting event: the first modern publication of these three arrangements of arias from Don Giovanni, in which Sor arranged the accompaniments for guitar. Newly engraved.

There are three arias in all: ‘Batti, batti’, ‘Deh vieni alla finestra’, and ‘Vedrai carino’. ‘Deh vieni alla finestra’ is particularly well known and would be a fine item for performance. 16 pages.

First published by Tecla in 2000. Contains all three arias.

The three arias are:
‘Batti, batti’ (b to a”)
‘Deh vieni alla finestra’ (e to f’ sharp)
and ‘Vedrai carino’ (e to e’)

The ranges are indicated above as follows:
a, b, c, and so on up to g: this means from the a four notes below the treble stave, up to the g which is on the second line of the treble stave.
a’, b’, c’, and so on up to g’: this means from the a which is on the second space of the treble stave, up to the g which is on the space just above the treble stave.
a”, b”, c”, and so on: this means from the a which is on the line immediately above the treble stave, upwards.

Décidément, Mozart est en honneur ce trimestre, et nous ne saurions nous en plaindre! A la finesse de ce génie, s’ajoute ici celle de Fernando Sor, qui transcrit en 1820, trois airs du grand opéra. La sérénade Deh vieni alla finestra convient particulièrement bien à notre instrument, et Mozart en avait d’ailleurs écrit la mélodie pour la mandoline, dans l’original de la partition orchestrale. La guitare s’y exprime très souvent en duo mélodique avec la voix … ce sont surtout là trois pièces propres à faire d’un récital voix-guitare, un grand moment de musique.
