Matthias von Holst’s Scottish Melodies for voice with guitar accompaniment are 24 well-known Scottish songs, arranged with guitar accompaniment by M. Holst (Gustav Holst’s great-grandfather). Includes “Ye banks and braes”, “Auld lang syne”, etc. The accompaniments are simple and charming. A complete reprint of the rare London edition of c. 1825-27, with a short preface by Brian Jeffery.

In 2012 Lars Hedelius-Strikkertsen (guitar) and Katrine Dyrehauge Roos (soprano) recorded “O my love’s like the red rose” from this book and you can hear them here with the simple and charming guitar accompaniment:
