Mauro Giuliani’s Sei Cavatine op. 39 are six fine Italian songs for voice and guitar or piano, presented here as a facsimile of the first edition. Very clear to read for performance.

All the poems are on the theme of love. The guitar parts are fairly interesting and not very difficult.

English prose translations are provided.

28 pages.  1987, reprinted with minor changes 2004.

The six songs are:

  1. Par che di giubilo (c sharp to e’)
  2. Confuso, smarrito (d to f’ sharp) (a very attractive song)
  3. Alle mie tante lagrime (d sharp to e’) (this song lies mostly low)
  4. Ah! non dir che non t’adoro (d sharp to f’ sharp)
  5. Ch’io sent’amor per femine (e to g’)
  6. Già presso al termine (c sharp to e’)

Ranges: The songs will suit a tenor or soprano as they go up to e’ or f’ or g’ (most of the time, however, in the middle range).  The exact ranges are indicated above as follows:
a, b, c, and so on up to g: this means from the a four notes below the treble stave, up to the g which is on the second line of the treble stave.
a’, b’, c’, and so on up to g’: this means from the a which is on the second space of the treble stave, up to the g which is on the space just above the treble stave.
a”, b”, c”, and so on: this means from the a which is on the line immediately above the treble stave, upwards.
