Giuliani: The Complete Works, in 39 volumes: Detailed list of contents of Volumes 25-32, the complete guitar concertos

The Complete Works of Mauro Giuliani from Tecla Editions, in 39 volumes

Contents of volumes 25-32, the guitar concertos

Giuliani composed three concertos for guitar, opus numbers 30, 36, and 70. The concerto op. 30 in A is the first and most famous of them.  All three are presented in this Tecla edition in facsimiles of the first editions, parts only, no score.

Giuliani’s guitar concerto op. 30 in A.  This concerto exists in versions for guitar and full orchestra, for guitar and string quartet, and in Diabelli’s arrangement for terz guitar and piano.

The three volumes for this concerto in this Tecla series are:

  • Volume 25 AVAILABLE: the version for guitar and full orchestra, in A.  There are separate parts for the guitar and for all the orchestral parts.  No score. The guitar is a normal guitar (not a terz guitar).
  • Volume 26 AVAILABLE: the version for guitar and string quartet, in A (same guitar part as in Volume 25). Parts only, no score.
  • Volume 27 OUT OF STOCK: the arrangement of the concerto which Diabelli made for terz guitar and piano. The guitar part here is a terz guitar so although it is written in A it actually sounds in C and the piano part is in C.  NOTE that this is NOT a reduction of the version for guitar and orchestra: it is a new arrangement of the work.

Giuliani’s guitar concerto op. 36 in A.  This concerto op. 36, unlike the concertos opp. 30 and 70, is not known to have existed in a version for full orchestra, but only in this version for guitar and strings, which can be performed either with a string orchestra or simply with a string quartet.

The two volumes for this concerto in this Tecla series are:

  • Volume 28 AVAILABLE: the version for guitar and string quartet. The guitar is a normal guitar (not a terz guitar).
  • Volume 29 AVAILABLE: the arrangement of the concerto which Diabelli made for terz guitar and piano.

Giuliani’s guitar concerto op. 70 in F.  This concerto exists in versions for guitar and full orchestra, for guitar and string quartet, and in Diabelli’s arrangement for terz guitar and piano.

The three volumes for this concerto in this Tecla series are:

  • Volume 30 AVAILABLE: the version for guitar and full orchestra.  There are separate parts for the guitar and for all the orchestral parts.  No score. The guitar part is for terz guitar, written in D but actually sounding in F, and the orchestral parts are in F.
  • Volume 31 AVAILABLE: the version for guitar and string quartet (same guitar part as in Volume 30).
  • Volume 32 AVAILABLE: the arrangement of the concerto which Diabelli made for terz guitar and piano.
