This Volume 16 contains seven works for guitar solo without opus
number, in reprints of the first editions:
- Three Marches.
- Rondongino Brillante.
- Three favourite themes of Madame Catalani. This work
consists of Giuliani's settings for guitar of three themes which were
sung by the famous Madame Catalani, and his settings are based on the
variations which she herself sang in virtuoso style to great applause
in her own time. The best-known theme is from Mozart's Magic
Flute and is the same theme on which Sor based his op. 9. We
understand that at present (2007) this work by Giuliani is prescribed
for the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada.
Four favourite pieces of Madame Catalani.
- Variations on a Savoyard theme.
- Six national Scottish airs (includes "Coming through the
rye", "The blue-bells of Scotland", etc.).
